Lori Foster’s Reader & Writer Retreat
This is the first year that I attended the Lori Foster Reader & Writer Retreat and it was awesome. I will definitely be going next year and the year after that and so on *lol*. I was so happy with the event after going to RT as my first book thing I was kinda bombarded by so much that it was borderline scary. But this event was so slow pace and exciting that it was well worth what I paid.
I got all kinds of goodies and tons of new books to read which I now have my computer back so I can order some of the ones in the series that I am missing. That is when sticker shock of the computer goes down lol.
I also got to meet some really great authors some familiar faces but others not!
~All the authors in attendance great group if I do say so myself.~
~Me and Jayne Rylon~
~Me and Jambrea Jo Jones~
~Me & Larissa Ione~
~Me & Lori Foster~
~Me & Dianne Castell~
~Me & Kay Stockham~
~Me & Jules Bennett~
~Me & LuAnn McLane~
~Me & Anne Rainey~
~Me & Beth Kery~
~Me & Erin McCarthy~
I also had the wonderful opportunity to see everyone that I have grown to love online! I mean this is the computer age and why not use it right *lol*.
I even won a basket in the raffle full of pirate booty!
Which went really well with my pirate costume!
This event is going to be a yearly event for me from now on.
Now off to read all those books I got
Summer by Gabi Stevens
Okay, we are still a few days away from the official start of summer, but for me, summer started on the last day of school (May 28). That’s not only when my kids finished school for the year, but I started my summer vacation. In the day job, I’m a teacher, so summer means almost as much to me as my students. That’s also the season for my novel, The Wish List. Why summer? First, because it’s my favorite season. I love the heat. I’ve always been particularly sensitive to cold. I once brought a blanket into class while I was teaching because my room had no heat. The kids thought I was crazy, but they brought their own blankets in the next day. Second, because summer in San Diego can’t be beat. The mornings in June are foggy and cool, and then the afternoons are sunny and bright. And the grunion are running (wait until the second book, Spellbound, for a scene with grunions)—yes, grunion are real. Third, I like a season where clothes are light and airy and you don’t have to wear shoes. Not that I run around in skimpy tops and slinky shorts. But I can imagine and have my characters run around in summer clothes.
Summer for me has always meant fun. It’s the time of vacations, reading, and getting a whole lot done. Stuff that I want to get done, not have to get done. So this summer I’m writing, reading, and just enjoying life. My tomatoes are growing (nothing like a home grown tomato), my puppy is growing (yes, I just got a puppy in late April, and she’s a joy), and my reading list is growing. Albuquerque is going through a heat wave right now, but usually the summers aren’t too bad here in the high desert.
In The Wish List the heat of summer gets turned higher for two reasons. Kristin finds out she’s a fairy godmother and has to learn magic in time to stave off an attack on the magical world, but there’s also the heat between her and Tennyson. Her summer is a summer of change and new beginnings, of new friendships and new lessons. And that’s not a bad thing. I believe change is a good thing. If you stop learning or growing, what’s the point in living? Some changes we can do without, but for the most part change provides challenge in our lives, and challenge gives us purpose.
So I hope you’re enjoying your summer. Embrace the kid in you and remember back to when your summer vacation was full of hope and possibility. And then try to fulfill some of those hopes and dreams. If you’ve ever read my blog, you know that I don’t do New Year’s resolutions in January. I do them whenever the mood strikes. And summer is as good a start to a new year as any.
One question for you: what are your favorite memories of summer?

Other stuff… No random book list today… I just couldn’t find anything. But next week’s list has a lot!
And, I believe we are still looking for a mystery book… Here is what we know:
“It took place in the south, was not historical…the main female’s parents died and she came to live with either her grandmother or greataunt who already had an older female cousin living their. They grew up together with a male who was not related by blood and the older female cousin married him but the younger fell in love with him. The older female was murdered and the husband was thought to have done it. He left and the grandmother sent the younger one to bring him back, and in the end it ended up being the grandmother who had killed the older female. There was a family business that the male had been promised and that was why he had married the cousin to begin with.{…} I think the book took place on a plantation, and when the main female went to look for the main guy he was in Arizona or somewhere like that. The older cousin was killed because she was pregnant and it was not the main guys. The grandmother found out and it was an accident.”

Yeah, I really couldn’t come up with anything better for a title of the post.
This week on the blog… Nancy Gideon on Tuesday. She’s a romance veteran (only calling her that since she’s been published since the 80′s). She is promoting her new shape-shifter series. For a little more about her series – click here.
Thursday, we have a debut author! Marie-Claude Bourque was the America Title V winner, and her winning entry Ancient Whispers is out this month.
I am hoping to get my act together to get another installment of the Road to the Ritas out this week.
And don’t forget to look at Brenda Novak’s Auction this month. I won’t say home much I have bid on things. TOO MUCH!
If you live in the Houston area and don’t know about Katy Budget Books… get thee there! The semiannual sale is going on, and it is a great way to stock up on reading material – as owner Tamra would probably tell you – especially after seeing me cart away a big bag of books this weekend. Sale ends this Sunday (the 23rd). I found Sabrina Jefferies entire School for Heiresses series in the sale books. (Guess what I’ll be reading next.)
And… Happy Birthday, Susan Wiggs! ;)
